Self Portraits

Our next project is the self portrait.  Each student will be able to look into a mirror and draw themselves using their pencil.  We will discuss the proportions of the face -  how the eyes are in the middle of your head, your nose is as wide as the space between your eyes and how your ears meet with your eyes and mouth.  Once the face is drawn, we will add paper hair and color to the self portrait.

Abstract Tissue Art

Today our artists will be bringing home their abstract tissue art project we did today.  Look for a project that is 6x9 with tissue paper all over it.  We learned about the famous artist Richard Diebenkorn who is from California and liked to create artwork based on the ocean and the beach.  Diebenkorn created abstract art and it was such a treat to show our little ones examples of his work.  They couldn't believe it was really the ocean!  We then explained what abstract art is and how artists create it.  Our artists then created their own abstract art and we discussed their project in a group setting at the end of class.
